Landauer's Principle
A physical principle stating that erasing one bit of information requires a minimum amount of energy, releasing heat into the environment. This sets a theoretical lower bound on the energy consumption of computation.
The principle connects information theory to thermodynamics: information is physical, and manipulating it has thermodynamic consequences.
